1940s Smith Corona Sterling Typewriter. Smith-Corona portable typewriter that locks into its box. Typewriter can be used while in the open box. According to http://mytypewriter.com/coronasterlingsilentof1940s.aspx , it's a workhorse typewriter of the 1940s, post-war but before 1949. It has the same style keys as the typewriters of the '30s. In '49, they started with hard resin keys without the silver band around them. The typewriter is in good shape, still has a ribbon but the ribbon's dried out so doesn't imprint well.
