Chinese Composition Dolls

This 10 inch composition couple each has a cloth body with composition lower arms and legs. The socket head is also composition. The bride has a black wig while the groom has textured, molded, and painted hair with individual brush strokes at the hairline. Both dolls wear their original clothing. The clothing is in very good condition with some fading. The composition is also in very good condition with slight crazing. The bride has one spot on her right forearm where the composition has chipped away. She also has a chip on the middle finger of her right hand. The character facial features of these dolls are wonderful. The painting is all original with no repaint. The gentleman has a tag identifying him as a “CHINESE DOLL” that is “MADE IN HONG KONG.” Both dolls have molded and painted shoes. I do not believe that the clothing has ever been removed from these dolls so I decided not to try to undress and photograph them. The both have lovely silk clothing with appropriate frog closures. This charming couple is simply captivating and appear to have been created in the second quarter of the 20th century.
