A great many collectors of antique bottles have become such collectors by literally digging up an antique bottle. Others have discovered antique bottles while cleaning the attic, basement, under the back porch, or by just looking in the dump.

Some antique bottles are sought after for their decoration, others for the style, manufacturing process, type of lip, type of top. There are cosmetic bottles, which held special creams and oils, which are very collectible. Other antique bottles are collected for their fine lithographed labels.
