Two substantial metals used in a number of decorative and utilitarian fashions. The use of these metals dates from pre-Victorian to today in forms such as picture frames, candle sticks, dresser boxes, sculpture, inkwells, and nautical equipment from such familiar manufacturers as Bradley and Hubbard, Tiffany Studios, Handell, Baldwin and many European companies. Brass has been used as an accoutrement to Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Victorian, Edwardian and 20th Century Modern decors. The most familiar uses of bronze have been in sculpting, both large and small including the highly collectible Vienna bronzes. In collecting antique metals, patina becomes an important consideration in antique valuation.
